Forging the Future Competition

Milton Keynes Council are inviting secondary school students from across the borough to enter into our Forging the Future Competition to have a say on the future of Milton Keynes. Students will have to deal with important case studies that will allow them to contribute to the development of the city. For those entering this will be a great opportunity to learn about the future of MK and could be an outstanding addition on UCAS applications and CVs as they will develop an array of skills such as public speaking, team working and problem solving. Every member of the winning team will also win £50 worth of shopping vouchers for the Centre:MK.

This final event at the Gallery will be the culmination of the competition and workshops. So far attendees will have met and worked with three of our project leads and senior directors who as part of their work on the MK Futures Programme are working at the forefront of their field nationally and internationally.

These sessions will have prepared and allowed the students to get their teeth into some policy writing for scenarios that will become pressing for MK as the city continues to grow over the coming decades. The issues that are being examined are:
· Mobility in MK – How will we get around the city in the future?
· Place-making, housing and communities – What will neighbourhoods look like in the future and how do we build healthy, sustainable communities?
· CMK/City centre – How do we make a city centre fit for the future?

This final evening will be where teams come together to present their policy solutions that they prepared in the previous sessions. Teams will need to show how their submissions meet the judging criteria, demonstrating how their ideas are innovative, viable and practical with the judging panel awarding the prizes to the winning team.

They will present their ideas and exhibition to our MK Futures Judging Panel which will include:
- Geoff Snelson – Director of Strategy and Futures, Milton Keynes Council
- Lee Shostak – MK Futures 2050 Commissioner
- Oliver Dean – Managing Director of MK21 and MK Futures 2050 Commissioner
- And two more judges yet to be announced!

It is sure to be an exciting evening and a great learning experience for all invited! The friends and family of those presenting are also most certainly welcome.

We look forward to seeing you and the exhibitions and presentations!
